View WiZiQ Profile of Kahlil G. Chism

At my "day job" I specialize in curriculum alignment to state and national learning standards, workshop and seminar facilitation, professional development training, website evaluation and redesign, curriculum design, document analysis, historical writing, and research.

WiZiQ allows me to teach history and civics to people near and far but my real love is interacting with learners in person. Take one of my classes, tell your friends and colleagues, and then bring me to your school or organization. In the mean time . . .

I will be posting ancillary materials here for attendees of my online courses, as well other educational ephemera that I find inspiring, informative, or simply worthy of exposure to a broader audience. Enjoy.

LET'S GET PERSONAL: TIPS TO HUMANIZE ONLINE LEARNING

*** from ASCD SmartBrief ***

In their session "Let's Get Virtual: Tips to Humanize Online Learning," University of South Dakota professors Doreen Gosmire, Marcia Morrison and Joanne Van Osdel presented one of the upsides to online learning -- online discussion ensures that all students contribute in class discussions. Introverted students are more likely to come forth in online discussions to express their understanding of, and interest in, the subject. An ASCD blog post highlight… Continue

Technology is helping some districts find or build teacher-training programs that allow greater choices and more flexibility than traditional options, educators say. *** from eSchool News via ASCD SmartBrief ***

Pausing podcast lectures and rewinding them to review difficult concepts helped college students who viewed their lectures online to score almost 10% higher on a test than their peers who attended traditional lectures, according to a study. Hm, a tip for your first session... Keep it simple, upload your presentation before the session, and do a test run with colleagues or friends :-)

Good luck!
